Hungry Soil

Brookfield Place Galleria

Toronto, Ontario  2000

Hungry Soil is an artificial reef supporting growth of artificial turf. Spring clips allow each stainless steel wire unit to grasp its neighbour, forming a lightweight matrix. Protruding hooks and latex bladders equipped with hollow needles imply mechanical operations on drifting organic matter: capture, injection, ingestion.

The work was installed in the Brookfield Place Galleria, Toronto, in the fall of 2000.
